What is a HEIC file?
HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the format iPhones and iPads use for photos by default since iOS 11. It stores images at about half the size of JPG with similar quality, but many Windows apps, websites and older devices cannot open it.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. Conversion happens entirely in your browser on your own device. Your photos never leave your computer or phone, so it is safe for private pictures.
Does converting remove location data?
Yes. The converted file is re-encoded from the pixels only, so EXIF metadata such as GPS location, camera model and capture time is not carried over. The picture is rotated correctly first.
How do I stop my iPhone taking HEIC photos?
Open Settings → Camera → Formats and choose “Most Compatible”. New photos will be saved as JPG. Existing photos stay HEIC, which is what this converter is for.
