About this tool
This GPA calculator computes a credit-weighted grade point average on the standard 4.0 scale from letter grades (A+ to F) and the credit hours of each course.
How to use it
- Click Add Course for each class you want to include.
- Choose the letter grade and enter the credit hours.
- Read your GPA, total credits and grade band; remove a course with ✕.
Good to know
- GPA = sum of (grade points × credits) ÷ total credits.
- Grade points used: A+ and A 4.0, A− 3.7, B+ 3.3, B 3.0, B− 2.7, C+ 2.3, C 2.0, C− 1.7, D+ 1.3, D 1.0, D− 0.7, F 0.0.
- Example: an A in a 3-credit course and a B in a 4-credit course give (4.0 × 3 + 3.0 × 4) ÷ 7 ≈ 3.43.
- Courses with more credits weigh more heavily in the average.

Frequently asked questions
How is GPA calculated?
Each grade is converted to points on a 4.0 scale, multiplied by the course's credit hours, summed, and divided by the total credits.
Is an A+ worth more than 4.0?
On the scale used here an A+ counts as 4.0, as at most US colleges. Some schools give 4.3 for an A+; check your institution's policy.
What is the difference between weighted and unweighted GPA?
Unweighted GPA uses the same 4.0 scale for every class. Weighted GPA, used by some high schools, adds extra points for honors or AP courses. This calculator is unweighted.
Can I calculate a cumulative GPA?
Yes. Add every course from all terms with its grade and credits and the result is your cumulative GPA.
