About this tool
The Favicon Generator turns one or two characters or an emoji into a favicon with your chosen background, text color and shape, and exports PNG files at 256, 128, 64, 32 and 16 px.
How to use it
- Type one or two letters or paste an emoji.
- Choose the background and text colors.
- Pick a square, rounded or circle shape.
- Download the PNG sizes you need.
Good to know
- Browsers show favicons in tabs at 16 × 16 px, so bold, simple shapes read best.
- Modern browsers accept PNG favicons via <link rel="icon" type="image/png" href="/favicon-32.png">.
- Apple touch icons are usually 180 × 180 px; the 256 px export can be resized for that.
- Only the first two characters of the text are drawn.
- Images are drawn with the Canvas API on your device.
Runs entirely in your browser — nothing you enter is uploaded or stored.
Frequently asked questions
What size should a favicon be?
Provide at least 32 × 32 px for browser tabs, plus larger sizes such as 180 px for Apple touch icons and 192 or 512 px for web app manifests.
How do I add a favicon to my website?
Upload the PNG and add <link rel="icon" type="image/png" href="/favicon-32.png"> inside your HTML head.
Can I use an emoji as a favicon?
Yes. Paste an emoji into the text field and download the PNG; it is rendered with your system’s emoji font.
Do I still need a favicon.ico file?
Not for modern browsers, which accept PNG. Some older tools and browsers still look for /favicon.ico, so many sites keep one for compatibility.
